ABOUT US
THE PLAN 2019 - 2023
Our aim is simple: To create More & Better players every year.

We want to grow our players organically by connecting with our community and providing pathways for our people to achieve everything that they can from our sport.
WHO WE REPRESENT
We represent our community, our families and our history.
We have been Auckland City's club since 1908, when we were the first club established.
If you have historical ties, family history or live within our catchment area, then we are your club.
Click here to view our society information.
WHERE WE REPRESENT
Our traditional home grounds are Victoria Park and Auckland Domain, but we represent more than a field....

We are the club for the postal areas of 1010, 1011, 1052 and 1071.

Thats our origins in Ponsonby right through the city and East to Parnell, Orakei, Mission Bay, St Heliers and Glendowie.
WHY WE REPRESENT
Our sport is a pathway to a better community, and to better living.

We aim to provide the best coaching possible through our sport, not just to play the game of Rugby League, but to excel at the game of life.

We have an obligation to provide a service to all of our community, using the sport of Rugby League to improve our lives, from age 6 to 106.
WE ARE YOU, YOU ARE US. PONSONBY : UNITED
SOCIAL FOOTBALL - APRIL TO OCTOBER
From 6 years old to 12 years old, and for the big kids over 35, our aim is to get moving, learn some new things, and most importantly, to have fun!

Our Social football covers the basics of movement and sports development. We teach our youngsters the skills of our sport, but also some other important skills, like healthier eating, making friends, being active AND social, and hopefully how much fun sport can be!

If you might like to know more about our social football side, why not sign up, or contact us.

From ages 12 to 20, we aim to improve our people as Rugby League players. We invest in our coaches and we coach differently to most clubs.

We want to help our players develop into the best players and athletes that they can be, without losing a love for our game.

Our focus is on player improvement, and not 'win at all costs'. We have learned that in our 113 years of Rugby League.
We improve our players, and they lift our club with their actions.

Whether aiming for the NRL, The All Blacks or Wall Street, we work on developing the skills that pro clubs look for.

If you are interested in playing Rugby League differently and developing your game, we can help!

Register online, or get in touch if you have some questions.

SENIOR ELITE FOOTBALL - JANUARY TO OCTOBER
Senior Woman and Senior Men; we all play the Ponsonby Way.

If you are looking for a club that plays differently, that is skills focussed and sees victory as you becoming a better player, not by having a trophy on the wall, then come and play.

Our ambition is to use our senior teams to prepare you for higher things, with a pathway to the NRLW through the NZ Warriors on our doorstep, and pathways to NRL teams at home and abroad, we want to help you be the best player that you can be.

We play in the ARL competition, and we are doing things differently.

If you want to get involved in a football first club, if you want to improve your skill set, or if you want to try something different, Register with us, or get in touch.

HISTORY
PIONEERS SINCE 1908. OUR HISTORY.
We are the oldest club in New Zealand, formed in 1908 in the basement of what is now the Birdcage hotel in Auckland central.

A pair of pioneers who had recently returned from the historic first Rugby League tour of England decided to form our club.
Our founding fathers were Billy Tyler and Charlie Dunning.
They were followed by Arthur and James Carlaw, a famous name and the same people who founded Auckland Rugby League, then later had the foresight to purchase Carlaw Park, the home of Rugby League in New Zealand for many years.

Still, 113 years later, we play at Victoria Park, the location of our first games in 1908.

A PIONEERING SPIRIT
Our club has been pioneering since we started, we have sought to spread and grow the game, and we continue in that spirit today.

There is the strange story of Charlie Savoury, who had his lifetime ban overturned by New Zealand Rugby League, and died a hero in Gallipoli.

We are the only club from outside of the South Island to compete for, and win, the Thacker Shield, the premier trophy in Canterbury for some years.

We were amongst the first New Zealand Clubs to play foreign competition, famously defeating the NRL Cronulla Sharks in the 1970's with Roger Bailey at the helm.

In 2014 we welcomed Jaraslav Bzoch to our club, a pioneer in his own right who had travelled form the Czech Republic to better learn our game. He went on to lead his nation, not only in the Rugby League team, but as a member of parliament.

More recently, we became the first New Zealand club side to play in North America when, in 2017, we played in the Ohana Cup in Hawaii.

We again set the standard in 2018, when we hosted the Ipswich Jets from the Queensland Cup in Australia, this was the first time a QLD Cup team had played in New Zealand.
